Ski Slopes

When it comes to the ski slopes, no matter what resort you are skiing with, it is important to keep a close eye on the ski reports and weather conditions. A ski slope can be a very dangerous place if you are not experienced and knowledgeable when it comes to the current weather conditions you are skiing in and what weather is coming towards you. There are big factors you need to consider before you venture out onto the slopes, everyday of your trip.

When you see on your ski report or see on your resort’s website that they use dry ski slopes, this means that they are using more artificial snow than natural snow. This can be a misleading term because many times the slopes are not dry; they are sprayed with mists and jets to keep the artificial snow moist as long as possible. This type of snow does feel much different from natural snow and this is something that inexperienced skiers need to pay attention to. If you are not used to this type of ski slope, you may want to consider a different resort or skiing side-by-side with an experienced skier.

A dry slope skiing surface can be found at many resorts and is quite popular in some areas but many feel it does not compare to skiing on deep and natural snow. These artificial ski slopes are used when the winter season is not producing enough snow to fill the slopes and create a satisfactory skiing condition. Many times the artificial snow is mixed with the natural snow and skiers may not even notice.

There are several different dry ski slope material manufacture companies throughout the world, although most reside in the UK. The most popular of the artificial snow is the Snowflex or the Perma-Snow. These two products are both white in color and have been used on ski resorts for many years now with success. Although there are new and improved materials coming out, they have not yet been thoroughly tested enough for resorts to try.

Ski slopes and resort conditions can always be found on your ski reports and you should check everyday before you venture out to the slopes. Many resorts have different types and levels of slopes that need to be considered while reading the ski report. The Olympic ski slope has far different conditions than the intermediate ski slopes and this is something you need to keep in mind.

Ski slopes can be very dangerous if the proper precautions are not taken. Enjoy your ski trip, but take the time to research your slopes before you begin.
